Infrastructure
Our investments in infrastructure to create shovel-ready and technology-ready sites promote inspiration and innovation. An arterial network of roads, water and sewer as well as dual feed power and fiber optic technology allow growing businesses to quickly take advantage of the emerging technology economy.
Redundant, Reliable Fiber Optic Network
New AlbanyNet is a 96 strand single mode robust fiber optic network constructed in partnership with American Electric Power. We have designed the network to be self-healing, so that there is no one single point of failure within the network. New Albany pursued this project with the goal of becoming Central Ohio’s best connected community. The project meets two of the goals that were developed as part of the economic development component of the Village Strategic Plan: developing an economic development tool that will benefit our businesses and healthcare providers by providing a direct connection to OARNet (formerly named Ohio’s Third Frontier Network) and to provide a cost savings mechanism for the Village as we utilize more broadband services over time.
New Albany recently partnered with the Bluemile to manage New Albany Net and provide engineered communication solutions for businesses of all sizes. Bluemile is a next generation network service provider specializing in Carrier Neutral Collocation and Interconnection Solutions, Voice Services including Voice Over IP, Internet Access, and network transport. Headquartered in Columbus, OH, Bluemile’s optical network extends from NYC to Los Angeles and many points in between.
Bluemile as an ISP is completely redundant in the core network with multiple transit providers at a minimum OC12 or GIG level. Bluemile utilizes Cisco, Foundry and Infinera Networks Equipment. All bandwidth is Multihomed, meaning having multiple carriers on the backend. Their configuration provides redundancy to the local exchange carrier(s). Bluemile is carrier neutral. They use many of the built in carriers in their network but the customer has the option to use them directly. Through this partnership companies in the New Albany Business Park can connect to facilities across the country via 155 carrier relationships. All backbone links are at a minimum GIG. All switches/routers are meshed together. The network utilizes OSPF, BGP, HSRP, and vendor specific.
OARNet is a dedicated high-speed fiber-optic network linking Ohio colleges and universities with research facilities to promote research and economic development. Over 1,600 miles of fiber have been purchased to create the network backbone to connect colleges and universities, K-12 schools, and communities together. Through the New AlbanyNet, companies have the opportunity to create a direct connection to the network.
Redundant, Reliable Power
With state-of-the-art equipment, enhanced coordination, redundant systems and a dual infrastructure network, American Electric Power ensures that reliable power is available to the New Albany Business Park. At $0.0706 per kWh, electricity consumption in New Albany is one of the most cost effective commodities in the United States.
