The Village of New Albany

Community Overview

About New Albany

Founded in 1837, the Village of New Albany became a magnet for families and businesses who are drawn by its notable architectural integrity, community interaction and economic vitality.  Located in northeastern Franklin County, the village boasts an unparalleled commitment to lifelong learning, wellness, culture, leisure and commerce.

A master planned community built upon the strongest qualities of small town America, the Village of New Albany has been featured among the nation’s best in Town & Country magazine and central Ohio’s best in Columbus Monthly. Innovative planning and attention to detail have resulted in a pedestrian-friendly community that has quickly set itself apart from traditional suburbia.

Among the defining characteristics that are an outgrowth of its approach to sustainable development and ongoing public-private partnerships:

  • timeless architecture and sophisticated land use planning
  • a village square anchored by restaurants, shops and a library
  • a vibrant mix of neighborhoods, from country club to European-style town home communities
  • a nationally ranked school system located on a 200-acre learning campus featuring a community wellness center
  • Ohio’s largest master planned corporate campus
  • a state-of-the-art performing arts center resulting from a partnership among the schools, community foundation and village
  • an extensive network of sidewalks, leisure trails and parks that encourages interaction and fitness
Housing

With its walkable streets, parks, leisure trails, a town square, and a mix of residential, office and retail, the Village of New Albany embraces the best attributes of urban living.  From its country club communities to European-style town homes, the range of housing accommodates residents at every life stage and income level.  Careful land use planning and architectural standards create a sense of harmony, symmetry and interaction in the village.  Surrounded by rolling farmlands, lush woodlands, ample green space, and its signature white horse fences, the village continues to preserve its agrarian heritage and natural landscape.

Lifelong Learning

A commitment to lifelong learning is a fundamental aspect of New Albany’s heritage and is reflected in everything from its 200-acre Learning Community Campus to the New Albany branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.  The learning campus is home to the New Albany-Plain Local School District’s kindergarten through 12th grade classes, a community wellness center, an 80-acre nature preserve and wetlands area and a performing arts center shared by the community.  Every school in the New Albany Plain Local School District has been named a national Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and the district earns “excellent” ratings from Ohio Department of Education.

Healthy Living

It’s no coincidence that you can walk to a wide range of shops, restaurants, parks and offices.  It is all part of the village’s commitment to healthy living.  That commitment is reflected in everything from the New Albany Walking Club to the New Albany Health and Wellness Center which offers the latest education and health screenings as well as a family medical practice on the learning campus.  And, the village boasts Ohio’s only orthopedic specialty hospital - the Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital and a growing number of specialized medical practices.

Culture

With internationally renowned artists, entertainers, authors and our school-aged students, the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts sparks the interest of young and old.  From intellectually stimulating to entertaining, events that include music, theatre, dance, lectures and more empower, inspire and educate residents and visitors.  The McCoy Center serves as both a school facility and a community resource.   The Signature Series Music in the Park program brings the community together for concerts while the Taste of New Albany takes culture to new culinary heights.

Leisure

A network of sidewalks, leisure trails and parks encourage outdoor activities and social interaction.

  • Over 600 acres of public parks and green space
  • Leisure trails connecting neighborhoods to Market Square, the Learning Community Campus and the New Albany Business Park
  • Bevelhymer Park, Swickard Woods, Thompson Road Park and Wexner Community Parks offer a range of facilities, from ball fields and tennis courts to walking trails, playgrounds and a multi-use pavilion
  • Home to two golf clubs, including the New Albany Country Club, featuring a 27-hole Jack Nicholaus golf course.
