Safety Town
Safety Town is a safety awareness program held each summer for children who will be entering kindergarten or first grade in the fall. Each day, the program explores a different safety topic, including stranger awareness, water safety, fire safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, animal safety and school bus safety. All Safety Town instructors are state-certified elementary school teachers.
The Safety Town Program was launched with the support of Key Bank and the New Albany Community Foundation. Since the program began in 2004, more than 1,400 children have graduated. In December 2006, the New Albany Chamber of Commerce recognized Safety Town as its Community Program of the Year. Through the help of Safety Town sponsors and supporters, more than 300 children now receive the benefits of Safety Town every year.

Who is eligible to attend?
Children being registered for Safety Town must be five years old on or before August 1, 2010.
When will registration begin and how much will it cost to participate?
Registration will begin during "Kindergarten Round Up" at the McCoy Center April 5, 6, & 7 from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm. There is a $60 registration fee payable to the Village of New Albany. Only checks or cash will be accepted for payment. Registration is first come first available choice. Forms may be dropped off at the New Albany Police Department (50 Village Hall Road) prior to Kindergarten Round Up, but these dropped off forms will not be tallied until the close of registration on April 7.
At the close of registration on April 7, interested persons may still register for available openings at the Police Department through June 20. Registration forms will be available at the Police Department and on-line, but on-line registrations will need to be processed at the Police Department.
When are the Safety Town sessions?
Session #1 will occur Monday through Thursday, June 21 - July 1 from 8:30 - 11:30 am.
Session #2 will occur Monday through Thursday, June 21- July 1 from 12:30 - 3:30 pm.
Session #3 will occur Monday through Thursday, July 5 - July 15 from 8:30 - 11:30 am.
Session #4 will occur Monday through Thursday, July 5 - July 15 from 12:30 - 3:30 pm.
Where will Safety Town be held?
Safety Town is held at the New Albany-Plain Local K-1 school building at 5101 Swickard Woods Boulevard.
