Programs
Block Watch
The Police Department maintains several active Block Watch programs within the Village. The highlight of each active Block Watch is an annual neighborhood picnic sponsored by the Department. These picnics provide an opportunity for the residents and police officers to discuss neighborhood issues and concerns in an open and friendly atmosphere. If you live in New Albany and are interested in starting a Block Watch program in your neighborhood, please contact the Police Department at 614.855.1234.

School Resource Officer Program
Since obtaining a federal COPS grant in 1999, the New Albany Police Department has had an assigned police officer at New Albany High School. This officer is the designated School Resource Officer (SRO) and works closely with the school administration on safety and security issues, strengthening ties between the New Albany-Plain Local School District and the Police Department.
Urban Deer Management Program
The Urban Deer Management program was developed in 2004 as a result of the rising number of car-deer crashes in the community as well as requests from local land owners who were experiencing landscape damage caused by too many deer overgrazing specific areas.
Only landowners who are participating in the program can permit hunting on land in New Albany. Hunting in New Albany is prohibited unless the hunter and the land are part of the Urban Deer Management Program. To participate in the program a prospective hunter must have submitted a notarized application for permit, a Release/Hold Harmless Agreement and have successfully completed the archery proficiency test. After attending one of the introductory meetings, the hunter must agree to all of the requirements listed in the Hunting Program Rules and complete the Deer Hunter Permit Form. Please contact the Police Department at 614.855.1234 for more information.
The New Albany Deer Management Program will be holding a deer hunters introductory meeting at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 28, 2010, or Sunday, August 29 at 1 PM, at 99 Village Hall Road in New Albany, Ohio. Hunters only need to attend one of these meetings, which are open to new and current qualified hunters. Prospective hunters who have not participated in the hunting program will need to bring their bow and four filed tipped arrows to qualify. Hunters who have already qualified for the program will not have to re-qualify. Additionally, all hunters will need to bring a notarized copy of the Release/Hold Harmless Agreement and Hunter Permit Form (linked in the paragraph above), along with a copy of the Hunting Program Rules, all of which need to be completed and submitted at the August 28 or August 29 meeting. For more information, call 614.855.1234 or contact Sgt. Mark Anderson at manderson@newalbanypolice.org.
